Inter Counties Cross Country Championships

17 Trafford AC athletes travelled to Prestwold Hall near Loughborough last Saturday to represent their counties in the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.

14 of them were representing Greater Manchester but we also had 3 athletes on the Cheshire team.

Once again, pride of place goes to our U13 Boys athletes. Representing Greater Manchester, Pio Aron (26th), Tim Ye (31st) and Finlay Dobson Emmas (33rd) packed superbly to help the County win bronze medals. Ben Keeley was 53rd for Cheshire and Evan Lewis (finishing with only one shoe like Tim Ye) was 167th.

Best Trafford performance at U15 level was Ava Clough finishing in an excellent 39th place. We also had solid runs from Josh Watson (186th), Luke Carrington (193rd) and James Walton (218th) in the U15 Boys race.

James Knockton, running for Cheshire, continued his successful season with 14th in the U17 Mens event. Behind him, Louie McCormack finished 104th and Will Parker 121st. Freya Griffiths had a great run to come in 79th in the U17 Womens race.

At Senior level, Mel Monks made her county debut finishing 239th in the Womens race. Evergreen Gavin Tomlinson had an excellent run for Cheshire, coming home 46th in the Senior mens race. Cynog Williams was 197th and Jack Wilkinson 216th in the same race. Jack became the first Greater Manchester athlete to represent the county for 9 consecutive years in 5 different age groups.

Several of our young athletes are travelling to Kent this coming weekend to take part in the English Schools Cross Country Championships but this event marked the final cross country event of the season for most athletes.
