Manchester Area League Match 2 Report, 13th November, Sherdley Park



Trafford’s women shone brightly on a sunny autumn day at Sherdley Park.

 

Decent weather and solid going over the undulating course made for a European style atmosphere as over 800 athletes competed across the two senior races.

 

The Senior women's team of Vicky Cronin (6), the evergreen Nicole Davenportj (23), Zoe Storr (29) and Melanie Monks (49) finished in a superb third place. The B team were 19th led by Louise Ambler (77) Kate Meeson (80) Alison Drasdo (87) and Ruth Beresford (93).

 

The men’s team whose first three counters were Jack Wilkinson (27), Gavin Tomlinson (31) and Jeff Prest (57) placed in a solid eighth from 62 teams, followed by Alex Jones (61) Darren Russell (75) and new boy Mike Melarkey (117). The B team finished 27th with Naeem Stevens (135) Tony Davenport (152) Dan Atkinson (158) U20 George Glennon (190) Dan Hill (204) and Jacob Fletcher (219).

 

The team performance of the day came via the U13 boys as Ben Keeley (2) supported by Pio Aaron (4) and Evan Lewis (5) led Trafford to a stunning victory, with the B team backing up excellently in fourth place with Finlay Dobson just inside the top ten, Adrian White (18) and Evan Horwell (24). The C team were 12th with Atticus Jones (31) Joe Cowles (36) and Toby Morrello (48).

 

Rachel Bowden placed a solid 15th, as the U13 girls’ team finished fifth in a strong field with Sem Tekle (17) and Sadie McCormack (24).

 

The U15 boys' led by James Walton (8) were the fourth team to finish with Josh Watson (17) and Matt Gardner (20). The B team were 11th, led by Zack Watson (39) then Ed Robinson (41) and Jamie Anderton (44)

 

The U15G finished two teams in 8th & 10th. Isobel Thomas was 20th, Martha McCormack (26) & Daisy Atkiss (28) whilst Sophie Bowman was 32nd followed by Fay Lewis (35) Rosa Morrello (36).

 

Top of the class among the U17W was Freya Griffiths who excelled in third place with Cleo Bentall (25). Joseph Deighton (10) was the first Trafford U17M home as the team achieved a third-place finish with Sonny Wilson (15), Joe Daly (18) ably backed up by Ned Silvey (20).

 

In the U11B race, Tom Aron was a fine 3rd backed up by Tom Daly (19) & Dan White (40) with the team finishing 6th.

 

In the U11G Megan Boyer was a superb 2nd.

 

The team again is showing improvements across the board, especially in the younger age-groups. There is now a short break before the next match which takes place at Kenworthy Woods on the 4th of December.
