Tom Daly wins UK Fell Title

Saturday saw athletes from all over the UK coverage on a lovely sunny day at the picturesque Edale valley. The event was the Junior Inter-Counties Fell Championships with England county teams competing against a Northern Ireland team plus regional Welsh and Scottish teams. Trafford athletes have been competing on the fells this summer and were out in force. Star performance was from Thomas Daly wining the u16 Boys title.

The Greater Manchester U16 Boys team consisted of three Trafford AC boys. As well as Thomas Daly, Oscar Bundy finished 19th and Ethan O'Brien 29th giving the team 3rd place in the Inter-Counties Team competition. This race was also the 4th race out of 6 in the English FRA championship and Thomas Daly's win takes him to the top of the table so far, an amazingly feat from Thomas who still has another year in this age group. In the girls u16 race Isolde Powell was representing the Greater Manchester team finishing 26th. Her consistent season has put her close to the top 10 in the England FRA series and Isolde, along with the 3 Trafford boys, also has another year in this age group.

In the U18 race the talented Sam Ingleby-Castleton was representing Greater Manchester in the 6.7km fell race just a day after qualifying in the 300m hurdles to represent Greater Manchester at next week's Mason Cup. A tired Sam finished in 31st place helping the Greater Manchester team to 9th place in the team race.

The U20 race also saw Greater Manchester Men's team filled by Trafford runners. Jay Hutchinson leading the team to third place only bettered by Scotland East and Scotland  North. Individually Jay was third in the Inter-Counties race and 1st English runner. Alfie Bundy (11th) and recovering from tonsillitis Evan Lewis (23rd) completed the Greater Manchester team, with Alfie and Evan both in the top 4 runners for this summers overall FRA English U20 title. Also competing was Luke Carrington finishing 16th as he makes a return to the fells this summer.

Special mention to Joe Daly, who continues his rise up the senior rankings as he finished 5th in the senior race and 1st U23.
