31 March 2026National 6 & 12 Stage Road Relays
On a cold and blustery day a small but select group of seniors made the journey up the M6 to Carlisle on Saturday to run in the Northern Road Relays.
The Trafford women's team had an outside chance of getting medals in the 6 stage relay and Beth Reid gave the team a great start on first leg. Up against Esme Davies a sub 16min 5km runner and Heather Townsend a 16.03 5km runner Beth ran strongly to come home in 2nd. Legs 2 and 3 saw Kate Meeson and Izzy Rippon hold on to 3rd place. Sarah Hudak ran well on leg 4, the second long leg, with just Salford catching her. Last minute replacement Zoe Storr showed good form on leg 5 and making her Trafford debut Alice Stiles kept the team in 4th place, less than a minute from getting a medal and one place better than last year.
In the Men's relay there was a small quality field with just 40 teams setting off in the windy conditions. Jordi Evans-Rodriguez led the team off on the 7km long leg running 21.42. After a steady start Jordi moved through to finish 19th on a loaded first leg. Jay Hutchinson (15.37) then ran a 25 second PB moving the team up to 10th place on the shorter 5km lap. They were backed up with good runs from Jeff Prest (24.04), Alex Jones (17.18), Michael Melarkey (24.27) and Jacob Fletcher (19.01).
