X-Country Success for Beth Reid

Wollaton Park, Nottingham is becoming the traditional course for the Inter-Counties x-country. The course is a flat fast course with one hill each lap running towards Wollaton Hall. With teams from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland added to the best runners from each England county the standard is arguably the best x-country race in the UK, with most races having over 300 of the best runners in the UK. The weather was warm with no wind and the ground was hard meaning times were very fast.

In the U13 girls race Cora Black enjoyed her first race for Greater Manchester. The youngest runner in the team finished 189th and 6th out the 8 Greater Manchester runners only 5 seconds of the top 4 GM runners. Tommy Calland in the u13 boys race was also 189th last year when he was bottom of the age group but this year he moved up to 71st, only 17 seconds behind the 1st Greater Manchester runner who was 36th. This was a strong Greater Manchester team as the finished 5th overall.

In the U15 boys race Trafford had half of the Greater Manchester team. Arlo Mander-Tullius was the best placed Trafford runner finishing 116th and 2nd Greater Manchester runner. Not far behind were Isaac Bury 197th, Logan Grocott 216th and Thomas Daly 229th.

The U17 Women's race saw another Trafford runner, Sarah Smith making her debut representing Greater Manchester and performing well in 204th place. On the u17 Men’s sidetracked youngest member of the team setting off last in the teams pen it was Adrian White who moved through to lead the team in 53rd. Fin Dobson Emmas was the teams 2nd counter in 67th with Evan Lewis 118th and Tio Austin 147th.

In the U20 Men’s race after a steady start Jay Hutchinson moved through to lead the team in 53rd. The Greater Manchester team only had 3 runners and all 3 were from Trafford with Luke Carrington 120th and Alfie Bundy 163rd.

The Senior Men's race saw Greater Manchester with a strong team of 9 runners with Will Parker running well in 117th place.

The Senior Women's race saw Beth Reid representing Lancashire set off in 30th place. Even with the fast pace it was Beth who was coming through, picking athletes off even in the sprint finish to move through to 15th and only 30 seconds of the top 6. With the best of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland this was a standout run for Beth as she finished 3rd Northern runner.
