You are here >> Home - News - News ItemNews Item2 February 2026Northern X-County Victory Again The Northern x-country returned to the Pontefract horse race course near Leeds. With long but not steep hills and quite windy conditions some great races took place.
Highlights for Trafford were the U17 Men's team winning for the 3rd year in a row, something that hasn't been done by any club since 1965. Plus Trafford's B team (4 to count) were the second team overall. Adrian White led the team in 6th place, a position also achieved by Beth Reid in the Senior Women's race continuing her great winter form.
The U13 boys Thomas Fotheringham and Stan Barber ran well finishing 44th and 51st out of the 125 runners.
In the U17 Women's race Sarah Smith was 48th and Sophia Ward 75th in a smaller but high quality field.
Rafaella Ingleby-Castleton was 33rd in the U20 Women's race and in the Men's race Jay Hutchinson held on to 18th place after a bad stitch halfway through the race. Close behind was Joe Daly in 30th.
In the Senior Men's 12km race a strong finish by Laurence Skidmore saw him come through for 125th, just ahead of Jeff Prest in 131st. They were backed up by John Howe 209th and Jacob Fletcher 228th.
The Senior Women's race saw Beth Reid go out hard staying in the lead pack of 5 on the first of 2 large laps, holding on to have a great race finishing 6th. Beth has been selected to represent the North, early February, in the Inter Countries and Area x-country at Parliament Hill. Running well for the Trafford team was Kate Meeson 46th, Zoe Storr 68th and completing the team Sue Exon in 136th.
The U15 Boys team have been progressing well, with their strength being their strength in depth, but it was still a surprise when they picked up the bronze medals. Plus the Trafford B team were first B team and 9th team overall. Arlo Mander Tuilus (14) led the team, followed by Thomas Daly (37), Isaac Bury (41), Logan Grocott (52), Ned Farncombe (59), Ethan O'Brien (66), Sam Ingleby-Castleton (82), Oscar Bundy (89) and Joe Bowden (113).
The U17 Men’s race was a steady start with 10 Trafford runners in the top 30 at one stage. Pio Aron (9) went with the lead group of 5 but he too got a stitch and dropped back. Adrian White (6) came from the second group looking strong the whole course. Fin Dobson Emmas (29) wasn't feeling great and had an off day but others finished strong like Tio Austin (15), Ben Keeley (21), Ben Gardner (24) and Archie Greenwood (26). Evan Lewis (37), Thomas Amaral (39) and Evan Horwell (52) gave Trafford 10 runners in the top half of the field.
