Fin Proffitt selected for Euro XC

Sefton Park, Liverpool is where the Great Briton team is selected for the Euro x-country races in December. The Men's U23 trial race was held over the first 2 laps of the Senior Men's trial race. Fin Proffitt was always in the top 10 U23 runners but with only the top 5 selected it wasn't until the second lap that Finn moved into 4th place. Rather than hanging on to the top 5 places as others chased him, Finn moved clear and closed 2nd and 3rd down in the long sprint finish to place 4th (only 2 seconds off 2nd place) and secure his place in the GB Team for the trip to Portugal on the 14th of December.

In the U23 Women's Euro trial race Beth Reid's great start to this winters x-country season continued. Beth was up with some of the best runners in the country finishing strong to take 14th place.

The Euro Trials races have been combined with the Mid Lancs league but for the first time the race was combined with the Red Rose and the Manchester xc leagues. This meant that fields were very large on the muddy and narrow in places, short flat course. First race was the U11 boys race and with 300 boys finishing the Trafford runners did well to all finish in the top half. Leading the team was Odhran Nash (13th) and with Henry Ball (23rd), Harry Armer (34th) and Henry Hooper-Loudon (45th) close behind the team finished 9th. In the u13 Girls race Trafford had two youngsters Cora Black (15th) and Betsy Widdop (28th) and 3 runners in the u13 boys race Thomas Fotheringham (33rd), Logan O'Neil-Wood (49th) and Henry Jones (64th).

In the U15 Girls race Daisy Heap (32nd) continued to show improvement and she was backed up by Mya Black (46th).

In the boys U15 race Oliver Davenport made a strong start and was always up with some of the countries best runners, eventually finishing 5th in the Manchester League keeping him 4th overall in the Manchester League individuals. Arlo Mander-Tullius (7th) looks like he is getting back to form and with Thomas Daly (11th) the team finished 3rd and are a close 4th overall in the Manchester League series. The team showed great strength in depth finishing 1st B team, Logan Grocott (17th), Sam Ingleby-Castleton (22nd), Oscar Bundy (23rd) and 1st C team, Ned Farncombe (34th), Charlie Congdon (50th) and Paddy Widdop (53rd) and with Daniel White (63rd) and Edward Jones (66th) that was 11 Trafford runners out of the 70 finishers in the Manchester League.

With the U17 Men’s and seperate Women's races held jointly with the U20 athletes over a short fast 4.4km course it was a hectic start and finish. Trafford's U17 Women had great runs Rachel Bowden 5th in the Manchester League and 63rd overall. With Sarah Smith 9th, Beth Stanley 15th and Genny Jackson 21st the team finished first and moved to second place overall in the Manchester League. Fin Dobson Emmas continued to lead the Trafford team finishing 3rd in the Manchester League and 24th overall. With Tio Austin in 4th and Adrian White the team again finished 1st. Zach Rose was 9th, Evan Lewis 11th and Ben Gardner 17th meaning that even without Ben Keeley 60th overall and Thomas Amaral 73rd overall the B team finished 2nd overall. Other finishers giving a strong C team were Evan Horwell 24th, Archie Greenwood 28th and Will Jones 49th.

In the u20 races Sara and Ava Clough started their x-country seasons finishing 28th and 37th overall. In the men's u20 race Jay Hutchinson was 133rd and Luke Carrington 166th.

The Senior races for the Manchester league did not include most of the U20 or U23 runners meaning no teams finished in the U20 age group. The women's race had 218 finishers just in the Manchester league and it was Sarah Hudak 7th who impressed again. Kate Meeson had a great run and Eve Southern in 50th is improving. With Mel Monks in 77th the team finished 4th. Other finishers were Ruth Beresford 114th, Joe Lott 141st and Sue Exon 208th.

The Men’s race saw all 9 Trafford runners finish in the top 3rd of the field. In the now heavy muddy conditions Sam Jackson 12th and Jordi Evans-Rodriguez 17th looked strong. With Simon O’Meara 45th, Mike Melarkey 54th, Jeff Prest 70th and Alex Jones 99th the team finished 6th. Other's backing them up close were Alfie Bundy 106th, George Wright 118th and Dan Partington  131st.
