You are here >> Home - News - News ItemNews Item25 October 2025Manchester League x-country It was high fives all round as athletes welcomed in the x-country season on a lovely afternoon at Woodbank park. For several U11's it was their first ever club race, Obhran Nash (14th) one of the smallest and youngest runners in the race worked his way through the large field looking strong on the final big hill. Henry Hooper-Loudon (29th) also came through the field well and after getting delayed at the start Henry Ball (45th) looked strong with a big sprint finish at the end. This gave the boys 9th team overall. In the U13 race another large field of 147 runners set off. Continuing his good early season form Thomas Fotheringham finished 13th with his school friend Stan Barber also enjoying his first x-country race in an impressive 18th. They were backed up by Sebastian White (52nd) and Henry Jones (61st), putting the team in 8th place. In the girls race Cora Black (22nd) lead the team and with Betsy Widdop (52nd) and Isolde Powell (61st) the team finished 15th. In the U15 race Oliver Davenport (4th) was always up near the lead group in the boys race. Tom Daly, this summer's English u15 Boys Fell Champion, enjoyed the steep hill moving up to 11th and with Arlo Mander Tuilus in 14th place the team made a good start to this winters 5 race xc series finishing 3rd team. With Sam Ingleby-Castleton (21st), Ethan O'Brien (23rd), Joe Thomas (26th), Oscar Bundy (30th), Logan Grocott (38th), Paddy Widdop (41st), Daniel White (56th), Charlie Congdon (57th), Edward Jones (73rd) and Joe Bowden (79th) the team showed great strength in depth finishing first B, C and D teams. Daisy Heap (21st) and Mya Black (29th) pushed each other with newcomer to the team Daisy pulling away in the later stages. In the U17 race held over a 2 lap 6,300m course, Trafford's Men's team started the season looking very dominant finishing 1st and 2nd teams overall. Early on it was Fin Dobson Emmas who set the pace, with Tio Austin looking like he is getting back to form chasing Fin, but it was Adrian White and Zach Rose who came through to give Trafford a 1-2-3 as Fin pulled away to secure the win. With Tio in 4th, Archie Greenwood came through over the tough course for one of his best x-country races finishing 7th and with Evan Horwell in 29th Trafford's B team just did enough to finish 2nd team overall. Rowan Leeming (31st) and Will Jones (51st), better known for their shorter track race abilities gained some good winter stamina and in 58th Sam Chant made a promising start to his running career. Not to be outdone the u17 Women's team secured 2nd place with the youngster of the Team Sarah Smith leading them home in 8th backed up by Sophia Mayer-Ward (15th) and Genny Jackson (19th). Moving to the Senior Women's race, Beth Reid, chased international Emily Haggard Kearney to claim 2nd place pulling her a minute clear of third. The race for third saw a comeback after giving birth, of former Manchester league winner Jacqui Fairchild. Jacqui used her experience to move through and clear claiming 1st V35 in the process. Sarah Hudak ran well to finish 7th and with Mell Monks in 63rd the Trafford Senior Womens team were 3rd overall. Trafford's B team of Amy Cauley (76th), Ruth Beresford (81st), Louise Mangan (115th) and Jo Lott (142nd). Team Manager Sue Exon finished the team off in 266th place and 3rd v70. In the Senior Men's race it was Simon O'Meara who came through the field to finish 22nd. He overtook Jordi Evans towards the end who was 27th. Luke Carrington ran well finishing 38th and with Jeff Prest 57th, Alfie Bundy 73rd who struggled in the last lap with blisters and George
