North West Road Relays at Birkenhead



The winter season started at Birkenhead Park on a Wet and breezy day, with the North West Road Relays.  This combines several county championship road relays to make for an exciting event on the pavements in the park.

 

First event was the U11 relays with Harry Armer (7.48) leading the Trafford Boys off in a hectic start.  He was followed by two Henry's competing in their first club events, Henry Ball (7.24) moving the team up and Henry Hooper-Loudon (7.46) keeping the team in 5th team in the Greater Manchester County race.

 

There were another 2 boys in the U13 race competing for their first ever time, but it was the experience of Thomas Fotheringham (8.20) who led the team off with a great run on first leg as he recorded the 7th fastest time for a Greater Manchester runner.  Emanuele Calisti (8.58) and Stan Barber (9.14) made a very impressive start to their running careers with the team finishing 4th Greater Manchester team. In the girls u13 race Betsy Widdop (9.44) and Cora Black (9.43) recorded the 7th and 8th fastest Greater Manchester times and the team were in 2nd place but unfortunately, they didn't have a 3rd runner.

 

In the U15 race, Trafford boys had 3 teams competing and for the first 2 legs all three Trafford teams were neck and neck, but it was on the last leg that Arlo Mander Tullius pulled the A team up to 2nd place in the Greater Manchester team race and he also recorded the 2nd fastest time on the day from all counties.  Trafford's A team were Ethan O'Brien (8.31), Oscar Bundy (8.39) and Arlo (7.25).  Trafford's B Team finished 6th overall Greater Manchester Team Sam Ingleby-Castleton (8.15), Daniel White (9.06), Paddy Widdop (9.09) and Trafford C team Logan Grocott (8.33) and Charlie Congdon (8.49).

 

In the U17 race Trafford's Men and Women's teams both finished 3rd in the Greater Manchester Team race.  In the women's race Rachel Bowden (9.07) recorded the 5th fastest time for all Greater Manchester runs to lead the Trafford team, Sarah Smith (9.18) ran the 6th fastest Greater Manchester time and with the 8th fastest time Beth Stanley (9.34) brought the team home.  In the Men's race Adrian White (15.51) had a good run out to start the winter season.  Fin Dobson Emmas (15.12) then recorded the 7th fastest time of the day overall and Atticus Jones (19.14) brought the team home to win his first ever Greater Manchester medal.

 

In the Senior Women's race held over a 2 lap 4.7km course, Louise Ambler (19.42) made a good comeback after injury. She was backed up by Louise Mangan (21.25) and Sue Exon (27.09), with the team finishing 8th Greater Manchester County Champs.

 

In the Senior Men's race Jeff Prest (15.25) set the team up with a good start just outside the top 20 teams overall.  Reid Sharkey (15.30) running his first race for Trafford then had a great battle moving the team into the top 20 overall. Next two legs saw Alfie Bundy (15.59) and Mike Melarkey (15.54) run solid legs.  Trafford's B team were led off with a good leg by Dan Partington (16.36), George Wright (17.25) has struggled with injuries but looked strong on second leg, Peter Cockings (17.56) made an impressive debut for the club and a Trafford veteran John Howe (18.15) brought the team home.
