Manchester Area Cross-Country League Match 4 Report

Tip-top performances from Trafford runners at the penultimate MACCL in Heaton Park on Saturday 12th January.

U11s

Evan Lewis finished in his highest position yet (on the longest of the U11 courses this season) with 12th.  He was joined by Barney Watson in 69th and Joe Watson in 73rd.  The U11s welcomed Billy and Josie Burns to the squad as Billy placed 70th and in the girl's race Josie was 68th.  Also in the girl's race, Martha McCormack was 25th, Daisy Atkiss finished higher than ever with 32nd and Sadie McCormack was 60th.  That gave the girls a well earned 12th place team.

U13

Imogen and Olivia joined forces to overcome the park's rolling hills as they finished 11s apart in 45th and 46th respectively.

The boys had a great turnout as three teams finished.  In the A was Charlie Atkiss (8th), Sonny Wilson (13th) and Owen Reekie (16th) as they placed 4th team.  The 6th place B team comprised James Walton (17th), Josh Watson (19th) and Joseph Daly (25th).  The C team were 10th thanks to the efforts of Albert Durance (35th), Austin Smith (42nd) and Edward Robinson (44th).

U15

After a brilliant  two wins out of two in the series to date Jack McNicol fought hard in this race but eventually finished 2nd and only 2s off the winner.  He was joined in the A team by Jonny Stock (19th) and Tom Bentall (24th) as they finished 4th team.  Ned Silvey was Trafford's fourth finisher in 33rd.

For the girls the A team finished a marvellous third!  That was thanks to Caitlin Doohan (11th), Neve Davenport (19th) and Lila Wainwright (20th).  There were also good performances from Olivia Russell in 23rd and Amy Nunn in 26th.  The 3rd place for the team replicates the position achieved in matches two and three.  They were 6th in match one, but with the best four performances out of five counting to the series overall position, they are well in the running for a top three team position overall.

U17

Rebecca Young demonstrated continued improvement as she backed up her 9th place at the previous match with 10th here.

The men were out in force.  Cynog Williams impressed with 2nd in a competitive race as Alex Bailey (5th) and Harry Sinclair (8th) completed the first place A team - class act!  Composing the B team were Andrew Hill (11th), Theo Symons Treacher (14th) and Lewis Royle (16th).  Incredibly our B team were 2nd!  Completing the 5th place C team were Seb Patrick(18th), Alfie Vesey Barnes (19th) and Joe Mangan (20th).

A wonderful 1, 2, 3 from Mac O'Malley (6th overall in the senior men's race), Xav O'Hare (14th overall) and Jack Wilkinson (43rd overall) ensured victory for their team.

Senior Women

After five seasons of racing MACCL, Vicki Cronin won her first race convincingly as she progressively moved away from her challengers after hitting the front in the first of three laps.  She was joined by Sarah Hudak (20th), Amy Cauley (27th) and Mel Monks (33rd) to complete an impressive 3rd place team.  The B team were 11th thanks to Sally Woolhouse (35th), Nicole Davenport (52nd), Zoe Storr (67th) and Claire Chaffer (68th).  Catherine Hurst was 117th, Jo Lott 159th, Ruth Beresford 168th, Alison Holbrook 177th and Sue Exon 197th which gave her 3rd in age group.
