Northern Road Relays Senior Report

The Northern Spring Road Relays were held on the meandering tarmac of Birkenhead Park.  The Trafford senior men enjoyed their best team performance since the Northern Cross-Country Champs of 2016.  On that occasion they finished 8th, and here they placed a fine 10th.  The damage was done on the first four stages as Tom, James, Jay and Dave flew round.  Congratulations to Jay who moved us from 5th to 2nd, thus marking a great team debut.  Meanwhile, James’s efforts were rewarded with fastest short leg of the day, and rumour has it the park will now be renamed St James’s.  Jeff and Matt both ran splendidly on their long stages.

In the B team, Richard Turner, Greg Marcroft, Blake Ellis and Jacob Fletcher were in action.  Greg won best dressed prize as he sported the new Trafford training t-shirt, which is available to buy from reception on club nights I believe.

In the Women’s 6 stage, the A team ran marvellously to finish 11th.  Jo Dawes posted the quickest of our short legs, moving us up two places.  Teresa then stormed round to notch the position up another two.  In-form Sarah and Vicki ran well to complete the testing long legs.  Nicole and Louis reliably brought the team home.  This was the best Northern Road Relays performance since the same event two years ago, where the women were 7th.  Meanwhile in the B team, Alison, Ciara and Sue did the team proud.

Well done everyone.  The National Road Relays are Saturday 14th April in Sutton Park, Birmingham.
