The course was relatively firm and dry but quite windy. The league continues to flourish with over 1200 finishers on the day. Trafford have always been great supporters of the league and on this occasion 56 members completed the course.
U11s (Simon O'Meara)
Trafford boasted a complete team in both the boys’ and girls’ U11 races. Sophie Norman was first girl home in 30th place, followed by Sadie McCormack in 37th, which is an excellent improvement from her 62nd at the November match. Agnes Reekie completed the girls’ team in 53rd. That meant the team were 13th out of 20.
In the boys’ race Evan Lewis was again first Trafford finisher, placing 17th. After three U11 races that puts him 17th overall in the series. Barney Watson placed 52nd with Joe Watson 59th and Ravi Woolhouse-Read in 61st. With the first three finishers to count, the boys were 10th out of 12 teams.
Juniors (Neil Canham) Our best team position on the day was 3rd in the Under 13 Boys. James Walton had a great run to finish 10th, followed by Jay Hutchinson 16th, Josh Watson 20th, Owen Reekie 36th and Billy Burns 65th. On the same course, our Under 13 Girls were 10th. As usual, Martha McCormack 25th and Daisy Atkiss 26th finished close together, supported by Fay Lewis 53rd. The Under 15 Boys race saw a welcome return to racing for Louie McCormack who finished a promising 13th. A past winner at this league, it is good to see Louie back after two years of injuries. The next 4 Trafford athletes were close together - Ned Silvey 29th, Charlie Atkiss 30th, Sonny Wilson 33rd and Alex Holroyd 34th. Also running were Joseph Daly 43rd and Zeno Mackay 45th on his Trafford debut. The team finished 7th. The Under 15 Girls were also 7th. Led home by Olivia Russell 19th and Lila Wainwright 21st, they also had Amy Nunn 37th, Imogen Davenport 42nd and Marina Guardascione 44th. Injuries and illness have decimated our Under 17 Mens team recently, so we were lucky to even finish a team. Alex Bailey finished 16th, Seb Patrick 24th and a welcome return for Tom Bentall in 25th. They were 6th team. As usual Rebecca Young was our only athlete in the Under 17 Women's race and she finished in a promising 12th place. Finally, competing in the Senior Mens race, our only Under 20 athletes were Harry Sinclair in an excellent 3rd place and Cynog Williams 7th. After a break next weekend, many of the athletes will be travelling to North Yorkshire for the Northern Cross Country Championships on 25th January.
Senior Men's (Jeff Prest)
Thanks to all those who ran at the MACCL on Saturday at Tatton Park. We had a very good turnout of runners which meant we were able to finish a B team and a vets team, which we needed to do to stay involved in the league. The A team finished 4th and the B team 14th (4th B). This keeps us in contention for team medals for the A team and in with a chance of team medals for the B team. The A team was: 7th Simon O'Meara 32:36 15th Gavin Tomlinson 33:31 18th Harry Sinclair 34:07 30th Greg Kelly 34:42 44th Jeff Prest 35:14 48th Cynog Williams 35:20 the B team was 71st Alex Jones 36:27 77th Darren Russell 36:41 82nd Matt Sutton 36:51 88th James Wall 37:06 146th Tony Davenport 39:14 147th Richard Turner 39:14 and also running were 222nd Nick Brown 40:57 307th Gary Woolstencroft 44:20 there were 478 finishers. The vets team of Jeff, Darren, Tony and Richard were 9th. Individually Harry was 3rd in the U20 age group. In the series this means that Harry is guaranteed a medal at the end of the year, as is Jeff in the V45s. A number of other athletes are still in contention for series medals. The final match of the season is at Heaton Park on Feb 8. We need to get a good turnout and some strong teams for that match to have a chance of getting some team medals. |
