Manchester Area Cross-Country League Match 3 - Arrowe Park

Juniors (Neil Canham)

A somewhat depleted Trafford AC squad travelled to Arrowe Park on Merseyside  for the 3rd fixture in the Manchester Area Cross Country League. A clash with a Sportshall event at Sportcity, combined with the distance to the venue, meant that our numbers were rather low. Strong winds and heavy conditions made it tough going for all.

The Under 11 race saw 5 Trafford competitors. Evan Lewis led the boys home in 18th place followed by the younger Watson twins (Barney & Joe) in 48th & 49th. Ravi Woolhouse Read was 52nd and the team came 11th. Our only girl was Agnes Reekie in 44th.

At Under 13 level our boys finished 5th team. Following good runs from James Walton (10th) and Josh Watson (15th) we also had Zack Watson 37th and Owen Reekie 40th. In the girls race Fay Lewis (44th) and Darcy Durance (53rd) did well  to survive a long and demanding course.

We managed to field 6 girls at Under 15 level. Olivia Russell had a great run to finish 9th, supported  by Freya Griffiths 17th and Lila Wainwright 18th. This gave them 5th Team place. Our B team of Amy Nunn (29th), Marina Guardascione (31st) and Imogen Davenport (34th) ran well to end up 2nd B team. The boys were 6th team. Ned Silvey in 14th was followed by Sonny Wilson (24th) and Albie Durance (30th).

On a very long Under 17 course, our only female finisher was Sinead O'Driscoll in a fine 11th position. The Boys claimed a 2nd team place with Joe Bentall (7th), Jack McNicol (10th), Lewis Royle (14th) and Seb Patrick (17th).

Finally, we had two Under 20 athletes taking part in a senior field of over 300 runners. Harry Sinclair had a great run to finish 17th, closely followed by Jack Wilkinson in 30th. They finished 1st and 2nd in their age group.

This coming Saturday (14th December) sees the first of the Cross Country Championships of the season. This is the Greater Manchester Championships at Boggart Hole Clough when individual and team medals and places on the County team will be awarded.

Senior Men (Jeff Prest)

Thanks to those who ran in the MACCL at Arrowe Park on Sunday.  It was a select band that made the trek to find a long, tough course with added wind for good measure.  Despite limited numbers the A team finished 3rd.  This keeps us in contention in the league going into the remainder of the season.  Unfortunately we didn't manage to finish a B team.  We can still do well in the B team league if we finish B teams, and they do well, in the last two matches.

The A team on Sunday was:

14th Gavin Tomlinson 42:54
16th Harry Sinclair 43:24
19th Jeff Prest 43:43
29th Jack Wilkinson 44:17
34th Greg Kelly 44:48
52nd Alex Jones 46:20

back up was supplied by
110th Mike hutchinson 50:07
203rd Gary Woolstencroft 56:31

We didn't manage to finish a vets team.

Individually Harry was winner of the U20 age group, Jack was 2nd in the U20 age group and Jeff 2nd in the V45 age group.

The next match is at Tatton Park on January 11th.  We need a good turn out for that so we can get a strong A team out to keep up our position in the league and also a strong B team to have a chance of a top 3 finish in the B team league.
