This league goes from strength to strength with over 1300 finishers on this occasion. It was good to see more than 60 Trafford athletes taking part. First off were the Under 11s in their opening race in the league. The girls team, led by a great run from Sophie Norman in 22nd place, supported by Agnes Reekie & Sadie McCormack, finished 12th team. The boys were unlucky in that traffic problems meant 2 of their athletes missed the start. However, Evan Lewis finished strongly in 17th place, followed by Ravi Woolhouse Read making his debut in 69th. Next to race were the Under 13s. The girls finished 15th, led home by a good run by Martha McCormack in 29th place, backed up by Daisy Atkiss, Fay Lewis and Darcie Durance. The boys improved to 5th, with James Walton having his usual consistent run in 8th place in a field of 76 athletes. Backing him up were Josh Watson, Jay Hutchinson, Owen Reekie and Zack Watson. At Under 15 level, Trafford were well represented. The girls, led by Olivia Russell in a great 14th place and followed by Lila Wainwright & Freya Griffiths, were 7th A team. It was good to see a B team of Marina Guardascione, Imogen Davenport & Amy Nunn finishing as 2nd B team. The boys put in a similar performance. The A team of Ned Silvey, Charlie Atkiss and Alex Holroyd were 8th team, supported by Sonny Wilson, Joseph Daly, Ralf Syrett and Albie Durance who were 2nd B team. Injuries meant that the Trafford Under 17 Men only had a small turnout. However, the team of Joe Bentall, Joe Mangan, Alex Bailey and Seb Patrick still managed a creditable 3rd place. It was good to see Rebecca Young having some Trafford company in the Under 17 Womens race. Rebecca finished a consistent 13th followed by a cross country debut for Sophie Utzinger, a foreign exchange student who is spending a term at a local school. Our only team victory of the day came from the Under 20 Men running in a senior race of 512 athletes. Cynog Williams, Harry Sinclair and Jack Wilkinson all had good runs to ensure a narrow victory. |
