Manchester Area XC League Match 1 - Wythenshawe Park

The cross country season arrived with a bang at a very muddy Wythenshawe Park last Saturday. Nevertheless, over 1000 athletes from all over the Manchester area survived the treacherous underfoot conditions. It was great to see so many Trafford young athletes competing.

First up were our Under 13 boys team who finished 6th. Out of 62 finishers, James Walton had a great run to finish 14th, Josh Watson 24th, Jay Hutchinson 24th, Owen Reekie 31st, Zack Watson 52nd & Charlie Owens 53rd. There were even more finishers in the Under 13 Girls race, led home by Martha McCormack 25th, then Daisy Atkiss 34th, Fay Lewis 56th & Darcy Durance 70th. The team were 12th.

The Under 15 Boys team replicated the Under 13s by finishing 6th team. In a close finish, Ned Silvey (19th) just got the better of Charlie Atkiss (21st). Behind them we had Sonny Wilson 29th, Alex Holroyd 30th, Joseph Daly 34th, Albie Durance 45th & Austin Smith 48th. We also had 7 Trafford Under 15 girls finishing in their race.  The scorers on the team finishing 9th were Olivia Russell 14th, Freya Griffiths 33rd and Lila Wainwright 37th. Supporting them came Marina Guardascione 49th, Amy Nunn 55th, Imogen Davenport 62nd & Cleo Bentall 62nd.

Our U17 Mens team were a close 2nd in their event. Led home by Bradley Giblin 8th and Joe Mangan 9th, they then had Seb Patrick 16th, Alex Bailey 17th & Lewis Royle 29th.

The only Trafford athlete in the Under 17 race was Rebecca Young who had a great run to finish 10th.

Finally, the Under 20 men competed over 10k in the Senior race. Again the team were 2nd, led home by Cynog Williams in an excellent 4th place, followed by Harry Sinclair 8th & Jack Wilkinson 9th.

Next weekend sees selected teams travel to Sheffield for the Northern Cross Country Relays.
