Northern League Match Four Team Report

Northern League Division 3WC Match Four Report
Saturday 10th August, Ashton-under-Lyne

Trafford's fourth and final Northern League match was held under weather conditions so inclement that the high jump stands blew over, leading to the event's cancellation.  Nevertheless, we stormed into Division 2 thanks to another second place team finish, which put us second overall and gained us promotion!

The athletes were supported by our superb officials: Alan Johnson, Sue Exon, Ryan Sciacca, Alex Jones and Ruth Beresford; and by several coaches and family members.

Like the previous year, the August fixture saw reduced turn outs for all teams, however, we had some very high quality performances.

Our sprinters were on point, led by the women: Ellina (first in 100m A and 200m A), Chayce (first in 400m A and 200m B), Molly (first in 100m B) and Chayce (first in 400m B).  They were joined by Amy Cauley to win both relays too - massive credit to Molly who stepped up to compete in the 4x400!

In the men's sprints we had Lawrence and Miles winning the A and B string 100mH, that followed Miles's victory in the 400mH A, with Esam wining the B there.  The team welcomed debutants Ayoola and Nkem as they posted season bests in their 100m and 200m.  Meanwhile, Jerel won the 100m A convincingly to add to his long jump victory.  In the 4x400m, Richard, Greg, Alex and Lawrence finished the day with a win.

In the throws, Jo and Jemma took top honours, with Jemma winning all A string events (to gain a stunning 36 points for the squad!), and Jo first in three B string throws and second in the discus.  Meanwhile Sergii's hammer soared to an excellent 47.19m, as he won the A string to add to his discus win.

In the distance events we saw success too, with wins from: Amy, Lis and debutant Matt, whilst Greg secured a 1500m PB and Harry Sinclair made his Northern League debut for Trafford in the 800m.
