Rivington Pike Fell Race Results

This Saturday it was the traditional Rivington Pike Fell race, one of the oldest races in the country having first been run in 1892.  The 3.25 mile race from Horwich up to the Pike Tower and straight back down incorporated the Greater Manchester County Fell Champs.  Weather conditions were cool and windy (especially on the top) and Trafford juniors were out in force.

In the U13 boys race Thomas Fotheringham was 10th overall just missing out in the Greater Manchester County Champs in 4th place.

In the U15 Boys race Oscar Bundy was close to the leaders in 8th place overall and won the Greater Manchester title.  Chasing him all the way was Ethan O’Brien in 10th place and winning the silver medal in the GM Champs and there was an excellent race from Joe Bowden in 13th place and 5th in the GM Champs.

There were more medals for Trafford in the U17 age group with Rachel Bowden finishing 3rd overall and 2nd in the GM Champs.  Competing in his first ever Fell race Sam Ingleby-Castleton surprised himself looking strong on the hills he finished 10th overall and picked up a bronze medal in the GM Champs.

The Senior Race incorporated the U19 GM Champs race and the Trafford U19 Men’s team had a great start to their summer campaign as the won the Senior Men’s Team title with 31 points ahead of Horwich with 101 points.  With five U19 runners in the top 13 places in a senior race it was a remarkable feat.  The five lads were always in the chasing group as the two leaders pulled away and it was 16 year old Jay Hutchinson who moved clear of the pack as the Pike Tower approached and went on to claim 3rd place overall and 1st junior.  Josh Watson (8th overall) and Alfie Bundy (9th overall) claimed the GM County silver and bronze medals in the U19 county champs.  Luke Carrington had a great run making a 2 minute improvement on his last years result in 11th and another 16 year old Evan Lewis was only just behind in 13th.  Trafford Life Member Dick Byers was 88th, finishing 2nd in the V60 category.

In the women’s race Rafaella Ingleby-Castleton showed her incredible versatility finishing 164th and winning the U19 Women’s Greater Manchester County Champs.  Rafaella better known as a heptathlete recently ran a half marathon, then a 1500m Steeplechase and next weekend will be competing in the 100m hurdles, 400m Hurdles, Javelin and High Jump.
