In the spring of 1979, Jim Harris and I took our first training group overseas to Athens, Warm Weather Training was then in its infancy, and after being sent to Spain together the year before, Jim and I decided (not surprisingly) that we could do it better ourselves. Sharon was the most famous athlete in the group, and she actually got my younger daughter to walk for the first time in the Karaiskakis Stadium, which was our training base. Four athletes in this training group were selected for the Moscow Olympics the following year. Sharon was a versatile performer with 4 x 100 success at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in 1978, and I always remember asking Jim how quickly she might have run over the 100mH if Shirley Strong, a more natural hurdler, had arrived in his group first, and Jim had been able to include in his coaching of Sharon what he had learned about the event with Shirley.
Sharon was a popular and naturally gifted athlete, who would have competed in any event for Stretford to get "points."
