The venue and course was a hit with the runners but with small fields and hot conditions it didn't feel like a normal National x-country. Some athletes were in early season form whilst others were struggling at the end of a long track season.
The u15 boys was Trafford`s most successful race of the day with Pio Aron always up at the front. He made a mid-race break using his 8.31 3km track speed to move clear of the field, his lack of stamina meant he couldn't maintain this pace, but he did hold on to the bronze medal. With several athletes missing Tio Austin stepped up with his best ever run finishing 12th just ahead of the ever reliable Fin Dobson Emmas in 15th. With good depth the Trafford team won the Team silver medal Evan Lewis(79th), Ben Gardner (91st), Evan Horwell (104th), Rowan Leeming (122nd), Tom Harris (146th), Atticus Jones (198th). The u15 Girls saw a good run from Rachel Bowden (63rd, backed up by Anna Thomas (173rd) and Ava Evans (174th).
In the u17 Mens race, Freddie Meredith (25th) had a solid run and with Josh Watson (88th), James Walton (117th), Dan Partington (123rd) and Isaac True (159th) the team finished 9th overall. In the u17 Women's race Eleanor Nicholson was 54th, with Isobel Thomas 57th and Fay Lewis 100th.
The u20 Men's race was lead by an improving Joe Daly, the youngster moved through to a creditable 44th and with Joe Deighton (54th), George Glennon (61st) and Ned Silvey (62nd) close behind the team were 5th overall and 1st Northern team. In the u20 womens race another improving athlete is Isabel Pearson who ran well to finish 37th.
In the senior womens race, an athlete looking like she is going well starting the winter season is Vicki Cronin (19th), who had her highest ever finish in the National as she lead the Trafford team to their highest position for several years as they were 8th overall and 3rd Northern team. Amelia Williams was 56th, Louise Ambler 100th and running very well after giving birth Ruth Beresford was 124th backed up by Sue Exon in 250th. In a good quality men's race Simon O'Meara (112th) and Jeff Prest (175th) both ran well.
