National Road Relays



This Saturday saw the end of the Road Relay season with the National Championships held at Sutton Park, Birmingham.

 

Trafford's U15 Boys team won last months Northern title and the same team competted on Saturday's National Champs hoping for medals. The Trafford boys have incredible depth and this was shown on first leg with Trafford finishing 3 teams in the top 24 in a quality first leg. Adrian White lead the B team home in 17th (27th fastest run of the day) and with a breakthrough race Tio Austin was only one second behind and close behind Tio was Tim Ye. Second leg saw Pio Aron carve his way through the field moving up to 3rd recording the 7th fastest time of the day and with solid runs by Evan Lewis and Benji Cavanagh Trafford still had 3 teams in the top 16. The final leg saw Fin Dobson Emmas record the 18th fastest time of the day and in a solo run he held the 3rd place for the Trafford boys A team. Another athlete showing a big breakthrough was Archie Greenwood (25th fastest overall time) moving Trafford's B team up to 8th place overall (2nd Northern team and 1st overall B team). Oscar Gascoine then finished off the C team in 24th place and 1st C team overall out of the 73 teams that finished.


In the girls U15 race Rachel Bowden lead the team with a strong 15.36 time over the 3.88km lap. Beth Stanley (16.51) and Anna Thomas (17.11) then held on to finish 41st. There were just 2 girls for the u17 Women's team Sophie Bowman (17.29) and Daisy Atkiss (18.29) who were in 44th place after those 2 legs.


For the U17 men's race Jay Hutchinson was in the top half on leg one (12.49) then Dan Partington continued his steady improvement with a 13.42 and Charlie Stanway had an excellent run on third leg to move the team up to 36th with 12.58. In the Senior Men's 6x5.88km race Fin Proffitt set the team up with the Team's fastest leg (18.20), Xavier O'Hare (19.26), Joe Daly (21.13), Jeff Prest (19.29), Joe Deighton (19.50) and David Bowers (20.11) put the team in 55th position.
