Trafford’s U13 boys season has got better and better and this weekend the team won for not only the first time in Trafford’s history but the first time a Northern Team have ever won the U13 boys championships. Pio Aron once again led the team using his strength on the hills to move through to 6th place, losing a few places in the downhill finish for an impressive 11th place. Tim Ye was having a great race as he led the pack of Trafford runners eventually finishing 41st. Ben Keeley was struggling in the mud early on but in the last mile powered through to 36th. Only a few seconds behind Fin Dobson Emmas (55th) and Evan Lewis (68th) meant it was a clear 38 point victory for the team. This was a great experience for Tom Harris (278th) and youngsters Adrian White (138th) and Thomas Aron (301st). In the U13 girls race Rachel Bowden (174th) ran well in a congested field. She was backed up by Sadie McCormack in 358th. In the U15 boys Freddie Meredith ran a great race looking strong as he moved through to finish 12th. The team again packed well with Luke Carrington (113th), Josh Watson (129th) and James Walton (166th), meaning they finished 13th overall and 2nd Northern team. In the U15 girls race Isobel Thomas (223rd) had one of her best races this season, she was backed up in the team by Daisy Atkiss (253rd), Martha McCormack (285th) and Fay Lewis (340th). In the U17 mens race James Knockton continued his great winter season moving up the field to claim 11th place. To make the top 10 as an individual or a team is incredibly difficult so it was great to see James backed up by Louie McCormack (80th), Will Parker (110th) and Charlie Atkiss (191st) meaning the team finished in 9th place. In the ladies U17 race Freya Griffiths (74th) and Cleo Bentall (217th) have been flying the Trafford flag all season so it was good to seem them running well in the National. In a tough U20 mens race Cynog Williams came through to finish 55th with Seb Patrick 179th. There were some good runs in the women’s race with Vicki Cronin just outside the top 100 in 125th place. Another strong run from Kate Meeson (257th), with Sophie Ralston (430th), Ruth Beresford (528th) and Sue Exon (915th) made them 43rd Team out of 104 teams that finished. In the senior men’s race Laurence Skidmore was 401st, with Matt Cooper 408th, Jeff Prest 599th, Naeem Stevens 786th and Jacob Fletcher 1250th. |
