Manchester League XC - Race 5 - Heaton Park - Report

It was a tough end of the season race at Heaton Park in the last round of the Manchester league x-country. It was in cold snowy conditions that the U11 race started. Thomas Daly and Megan Boyer were the sole Trafford runners braving the conditions, Megan being rewarded with 2nd place overall in the winter series.

The U13 boys continued their great winter season with a team win. There was a brilliant debut for Reuben Harrison-Adams finishing 2nd, he was followed by Ben Keeley who's consistent season secured second place overall in the series. Great runs from Tim Ye, Evan Lewis, Adrian White and Oscar Gascoine meant that Trafford's A and B teams finished in the top 3 Teams overall. Ava Bygrave ran well in the girls race to finish 19th and was backed up by Ava Evans and Sadie McCormack.

The U15 boys race saw Josh Watson continue his improvement this winter with his best result in 6th place. He was backed up by Matt Gardner and James Walton. In the girls U15 race Isobel Thomas, Sophie Bowman and Rosa Morrello ran well with the team finishing a close 7th.

In the U17 Men's race Jack Haworth was rewarded for his first winter of XC races leading the team to 2nd place and finishing Trafford's top runner in the series in 6th overall. In the women's U17 race Freya Griffiths still managed 4th despite recently having covid but her great winter form meant she finished 2nd overall in the series. Cleo Bentall had her highest finish in 11th and moved up to finish 10th in the league.

In the women's race Vicki Cronin lead the team to 3rd place overall and individually Vicki finished 4th in the series. Best run of the day came from Kate Meeson who was 18th, showing that hard work pays off as she has improved from 134th in the first league match. Zoe Storr (26th) and Mel Monks (45th) have had a consistent season once again finishing in Trafford's A team. Best placed vet was Jo Lott with 3rd place in the V55 age group.

Talking about Super Vets leads nicely onto the senior men's race. Gavin Tomlinson rolled back the years with his first top 3 finish in a league race for 6 years. Next was another consistently great vet, Jeff Prest who finished the season 2nd overall in the V45 age group. They were backed up by Laurence Skidmore (39th), David Bowers (47th), Naeem Stevens (53rd) and Alex Jones (58th) with the team securing 4th place.
