Preview to Exciting League Finales This Weekend: Seniors and U15s & U13s
This weekend could be a wonderful one for Trafford teams; the senior women can gain promotion to the Premiership of the UK Women’s League if they finish in the top two of their last match on Sunday.
On Saturday, the senior men could be promoted to Division Three of the British Athletics League - see report below.
Also this weekend, the U15s and U13s have their final match of the Lower Youth Development League. With their place in the league safe can they finish with a bang?
British Athletics League Match 3 Preview
Saturday 15th July 2017, Bedford.
After winning the first two matches, Trafford's senior men will guarantee promotion in Bedford if they win and City of Portsmouth finish outside the top two spots (as they have done so far). You could say by winning this match promotion would be put to bed for definite. The match is unique as it combines all five divisions of the BAL. Although Trafford will only be competing against clubs in division four, it is an opportunity to gauge the quality of Division Three, which, all being well, is our destination next season.
In the 400 we have Joel and Reece battling for bragging rights. They will both be hoping to go sub 49s again. After a third and second placing in the A string at the last two matches, will we see the perfect double victory this time?
The 400 H sees Jerell looking to improve on his PB set at the previous match. It will be his first track race of the day so hopefully he'll be able to take advantage of fresh legs. George Hurst set a new 400 H PB at last weekend's Northern League. With just the one race to focus on here can he get close to that time again?
Rivi broke his 100 PB in June, while Sanchez improved both his 100 & 200 PBs at the Northern League last weekend. The pair line up looking for quick times and valuable points in the 100. In the 200 Sanchez is joined by Joel who has also set a PB over the distance this season.
In the 110 H, Will Aldred set a PB into a 1.4 headwind at the last BAL. He'll be hoping for favourable conditions in Bedford and make it two wins out of two in his BAL series. As in the last match, Jerell will hopefully be able to make it a double victory for Trafford in this event.
Danny Hayes has been getting quicker with every race this season
Robin will be hungry for his first win in the 3000 S/C A after 2nd positions so far. He recently ran under 10:00 for the first time, so it looks promising! Simon's been working on his water jump so will be hoping to win the B.
Back from injury and looking speedy, Dave Horniman will be looking to the top few spots in his 800 A. Meanwhile in the B, Danny Hayes will also be aiming high as he continues his fine run of form this season
The 5000 sees Andile looking to capitalise on his excellent current form, he recently ran a 5K PB of 15:12. Returning to the fray, Tom Charles who looked smashing at last weekend's Northern League will challenge for 1st in the B.
The 1500 sees Danny Lawton making his BAL debut, welcome to the team! The speedy middle distance and fell runner has clocked a 3:50.86 PB this summer, which should see him placing high. The B runner in this event will be filled by one of the aforementioned distance runners, as yet to be decided.
In the Javelin, hopefully Mike will once again exceed the 50 m mark and the experienced Pawlo will be pushing 40 m again. These two have been gaining valuable points in an event we struggled with last season.
Mike and Sergii will putt the shot, and hope to once again record top two positions. The field eventers (throws and jumps) have really bolstered the team's performance so far.
In the Hammer and Discus Sergii has been nudging closer to his PBs whilst winning the A strings. Will Saturday see him get even closer to his bests? Roger could be Sergii's closest competitor after winning both the Hammer and Discus B at the previous match. Remarkably Roger threw the Hammer exactly the same distance in the Northern League last weekend as at BAL match 2. He will be keen therefore to surpass the 50.68 mark.
Dom Blake made an excellent BAL debut at the Stretford Match
Mike and Sergii will battle it out in the Pole Vault. If they get decent conditions we could see them going higher than the 3.23 both recorded at the last match.
Dom and Jerell will pair up in both the Long and Triple Jump, with Lawrence taking a rest due to injury concerns. Both chaps have been in good form recently; Dom, for example, achieved bests in both jumps in June.
In the High Jump, Jerell and Dean will represent. Dean matched his 1.60 PB at the recent Northern League, can he go higher on Saturday?
Match four is Sunday August 20th in Portsmouth, where a team photo will be taken after the relays.
Good luck all!
