Northern League Match 3 Report - Trafford Victorious
Northern League Match 3 Report
On 8th July a squad of Traffordians descended on Halifax's Spring Hall Sports Facility to facilitate their Northern League campaign. The team had finished 6th in the first match and 5th in the second, putting us joint bottom of the league overall (with Halifax). One team gets relegated from Division 3W, so a big performance was needed.
For the women, Kerrie Buckley and Jemma Bates stole the show, both competing in the Shot, Hammer and Discus. They finished second in the A and B for all but the Shot B, which Kerrie won! Kerrie came close to PBs on all three events and then, apparently unfatigued, gained valuable points in the Javelin too! Ruth Beresford truly turned out for the team, her list of events looking like a season’s worth for most athletes. She was 2nd in the 800 B, 1st in 3000 B, 5th in 400 A, ran a fine 2nd leg in the 4x100 and was first off in the 2nd place 4x400 team. Top effort!
In the jumps Lili Boyle was supreme, finishing 1st in the Triple and 2nd in the Long where she equalled her PB. Hats off to Tiffany James who smashed her 100 and 200 PBs! Full results are below.
For the men, Tom Charles and Andile Hlebo put on an impressive display of endurance running, winning the B and A 5000, respectively. George Hurst broke his 400 H and Triple Jump PB in addition to gaining valuable points in the 4x400 and High Jump. Ahmed Simeed completed a formidable 400 H duet, winning the B race in his first attempt at the discipline. Sanchez Nguie broke his sprint PBs as he continues his very successful summer season. Kaleb Marchan again improved his Shot and Javelin PBs. Sam Beesley walked away with no less than three PBs: 400, Triple and Long Jump! Recovering from injury, Gareth Woodcock made a very promising return to league competition. The 4x100 team ran smoothly to finish 2nd, while the 4x400 team also finished 2nd, with Richard Workman making a successful return to club competition.
Trafford won the team competition, yezzzz! This means we are now 4 league points ahead of Halifax and fairly safe from being relegated. It will be exciting to see further great performances at the next and final Northern League Match, which is a home fixture on Saturday August 5th at Stretford.
